Sri Lanka needs to beat England in order to make a way to Semis.
Race for Knockout entry is seems to getting intensified. Today Sri Lanka will face England in Feroz Shah Kotla, Dehli at 07:30 pm. England ranked No.2 in group 1 with 2 wins in three outings earned them 4 points in table. On the other side not performed its best Sri Lanka is positioned at no. 4 will need to defeat England. England being the heavy weight with good batting side and moderate at bowling attack seems confident.
England was beaten by WI in their first match by 6 wickets, after that they backed themselves on the track with two successive wins against South Africa and Afghanistan respectively. They win the match against South Africa by 2 wickets and did beat minnows Afghanistan by 15 runs .they chased down the huge target given by South Africa and set themselves into motion. Which shows that they are good at chasing the target.
Sri Lanka have played a game lesser but there are issues which they need to sort out as earlier as possible. Their pace bowling is under performing, middle-order is inconsistent. Sri Lanka managed a win against Afghanistan and lost a game against ruthless West Indies.
Sri Lanka rely on opening pair Dilshan and Dinesh Chandimal. Their spin bowling have Rangana Herath, Angelo Mathews, Thisara Perera. Joe Root talks “If we’re being honest, we’ve not done one part of our game consistently well. At times we’ve bowled extremely well and at times we’ve batted well. When that comes together we’ll be a very hard side to beat.
In group 1 there is every possibility that 2 or more team will get 6 points. This will put the pressure on teams to maintain good net run rate. Take a look at teams’s net run rate ( NRR) WI-+0.609, England +0.018, SA +0.485, SL- 0.171. Here SA has good chance to bounce back.
