MS Dhoni winning the toss elected to bowl first. As pitch report predicted that there will be moisture for first 30 minutes of the match. Pace bowlers would get some seam movement. As expected fast bowlers didn’t disappoint. Barinder provided early breakthrough in his first over in the form of LBW. D Kulkarni struck in the 9th over of the match with a lovely delivery. Dhoni took the catch and Zimbabwe were 27 for 2. After that wickets kept falling at regular intervals. At one stage Zimbabwe were 75-5.

It looked like Zimbabwe would not be able to play all the 50 overs. But a small partnership developed in between Chigumbara and S Raza. They added 40 runs together and consumed lots of deliveries. But it provided a little bit of stability. Just when time came to up the ante Zimbabwe lost another in the form of S Raza. It was barinder who struck for India. Zimbabwe were struggling at 116-6. But still they managed to play 49.5 overs and scored 168 runs.

India did not get an ideal start. Karun Nair opened the innings with K Rahul. He went for a bad shot and ended up with an edge. India lost Nair early in the innings at 11-1. Nair scored just 7 runs and Rayudu  joins K Rahul. After that the chase looked bit easy as both batted splendidly. India won by 9 wickets. Rahul scored century on his debut and become 1st Indian to score 100 on ODI debut. Rayudu remained not out on 62. He completed his 1000 runs and became 5th fastest Indian to score individual 1000 runs in ODI.

Overall it was excellent performance by Indians against the team which lacked International cricket experience.

K L Rahul was declared as man of the match.
