Ireland won the toss and elected to field first. Visitors got decent start. But lost couple of wickets in short span of time. Srilanka were 47/2 when Dinesh Chandimal came to bat. He joined Kusal Mendis and both of them did right thing. They constructed 82 runs partnership between them with healthy run rate. Kusal Mendis lost his wicket after well made 51. After that Sri Lankan captain Anjelo Mathews came to crease. The duo added 89 runs together and Mathews lost his wicket. He missed his half century but played his part by scoring handy 49 runs. Well set Dinesh Chandimal was at the crease and he was holding the key.
Dasun Shanaka came to bat and he accelerated the run rate. Sorensen bowled 43rd most expensive over of the match which conceded 26 runs. Shanaka departed after scoring 42 runs in just 19 balls. Finally Sri Lanka scored 303/7 in 50 overs in which Chandimal scored fantastic 100.
The chase started off well for Ireland. They build their innings with small regular partnerships. It was going well until when wickets started trembling down one after the other. At one stage Ireland were 198/4 in 34.5 overs. They needed 95 in 73 balls (due to rain interrupted play target was reduced to 293 in 47 overs) which is achievable in modern day cricket. Sri Lankan were bit floppy in the field and gave life line to K Obrien who played really well. But things went against Ireland. They lost wickets in cluster. Sri Lankan bowled well. Ireland’s innings finished at 216 with 38 balls to spare. Finally visitors won by 76 runs as per (D/L method).
