Storm Queens made history by winning first ever Women’s Pro Kabaddi Challenge 2016. They beat Fire Birds (24-23) in a hard fought match at Gachbowli Indoor stadium, Hydrabad. Let us see the match result and highlights in details.
I must say final is played like a final. It was thrilling match. The result came in the last raid of the match. It was the first match in Women’s Pro Kabaddi Challenge 2016 which was so close and tight. Girls showed the fighting spirit and gave their 100% in the performance. The popularity of Women’s Pro Kabaddi Challenge will touch the sky with such terrific matches.
First Half Time
It was Mamtha Pujari who did first raid of the final of the season 1. The stadium was packed to witness first Women’s Pro Kabaddi Challenge 2016 final. Even celebrities were present to be the part of the history. Both the teams opened their scoring accounts in do-or-die raids. Both the teams were not ready to take any unwanted risk in the first half time. Sakshi Kumari was incredible for Storm Queens and Fire Birds showed some good tackle skills. Till first half time the scores were equal 5-5 as the game was quite slow. The battle was open for both teams.
Second Half Time
In the second half the game was bit more attacking from both sides as compared to first half. Monika did a fabulous job for Fire Birds. She tackled raider in a do-or-die raid to take the lead of 8-6 over Storm Queens. The lead was extended further to 11-8 by Fire Birds. Only 3 ladies were left for Storm Queens. It was a pressure situation for Queens. But Storm Queens never let the pressure to dominate over them. They showed big heart and did super tackle. Mamtha Pujari mistimed the tackle and gave away unnecessary point. Storm Queens went ahead 12-11.
The pressure was shifted towards Fire Birds. Only two players were left for them and Storm Queens did not miss the opportunity to produce all out. Failure of Mamtha Pujari in raiding troubled Fire Birds a lot. Storm Queens were leading the game by 19-12.
Fire Birds were not ready to give up easily. They reduced the lead to 20-15. But storm Queens again to lead of 22-15. Real drama happened in last few seconds. Fire Birds inflicted all out. The capitalized on the errors made by Storm Queens. But it was Skipper Tejaswini Bai who brought touch points in the last raid of the match and stopped this up and down to 23-22.
In this manner Storm Queens carved their name on first ever Women’s Pro Kabaddi Challenge 2016 as winner.
