The International Table Tennis Federation announced that the Liebherr 2016 Men’s World Cup will be held in Saarbrücken, Germany. The prestigious event, which only 20 of the world’s best table tennis players qualify for, will be staged in Saarlandhalle between 01 – 03 October 2016. It’s the third time that it takes place in Germany and for the first time in the Saarland.
“We hope for a full house on all three days,” said Michael Geiger, President of the German Table Tennis Association. The tournament starts on a Saturday and concludes on Monday and Monday ,the day of German Unity , a public holiday throughout the country. So, hopefully, this world cup won’t lack the spectators.
“German table tennis fans can easily visit the three day table tennis festival. “It is quite some time ago since we had a top event in this part of the country.” Said Geiger.
Saarbrücken will be the third German city and the 12th European city to host the event since the first World Cup in 1980. For DONIC star Dimitrij Ovtcharov who became third at the World Cup in Halmstad (Sweden) in October this year, the prestigious tournament in next year will be a home game for him. The European Champion won’t only have the German fans that support him, but also perfect playing conditions as usual, as tables and nets are again supplied by the traditional German company DONIC which has been Dima’s equipment supplier since he has been a child. The World Cup offers again best conditions for both fans and players
