U19 World Cup: Pakistan outplay New Zealand in Super Six

HARARE: Pakistan romped to a dominant eight wicket win over New Zealand to kickstart their Super Six campaign in the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup 2026 at the Harare Sports Club on Tuesday.

The Green Shirts chased down a mere target 111 runs, losing two wickets with 32.5 overs to spare.

Sameer Minhas starred with the bat, scoring 76 off 59 balls with the aid of two sixes and 10 fours.

Earlier, Pakistan have bowled New Zealand out for 110 runs in 28.3 overs in the Super Sixes round match of the ongoing U19 World Cup at the Harare Sports Club.

Pakistan U19 won the toss and elected to bowl first against New Zealand U19. The Kiwis got to a flying start after losing their first wicket on just 11 runs in the third over.

New Zealand completed their first fifty in the seventh over with Hugo Bogue leading the charge, contributing 39 runs on 27 deliveries before Mohammad Sayyam got rid of him in the eighth over.

No other batter hurt the Pakistan U19 bowlers, with captain Tom Jones also losing his wicket for just 15 runs to Abdul Subhan in the ninth over, which was a wicket maiden.

Mason Clarke (17) and Hunter Shore (13) offered a brief resistance to push the Kiwis to a modest total, but Clarke was dismissed by Subhan before Shore was run out for the final wicket.

Subhan was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan, with four wickets; Ali Raza removed three, Sayyam and Momin Qamar contributed one apiece.

New Zealand: Marco Alpe (wk), Hugo Bogue, Tom Jones (c), Jacob Cotter, Snehith Reddy, Brandon Matzopoulos, Jaskaran Sandhu, Callum Samson, Mason Clarke, Hunter Shore and Luke Harrison.

Pakistan have won their U19 World Cup group-stage matches against Scotland and Zimbabwe, aiming to secure a semifinal spot by defeating New Zealand.

Meanwhile, New Zealand are winless in U19 World Cup matches against the United States, and Bangladesh was abandoned due to rain, while losing to India in the group stage and looking for their first victory, despite being underdogs for a top-four finish.
