LAHORE: Pakistan’s opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq’s recent injury during the Test series against England has caused concerns within the Pakistan Cricket Board, with Geo Super’s report confirming that the board will conduct a thorough investigation into the latest injury claim in light of his controversial 2025 New Zealand episode.
Imam-ul-Haq reportedly suffered a calf injury during Pakistan’s second Test against England at Lord’s, forcing him to miss batting in both innings and raising questions over the credibility of his fitness.
The development has resurfaced questions over Imam’s earlier incident during Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in March 2025.
According to Geo Super’s report, the PCB’s 2025 inquiry committee said that Imam deliberately faked an injury during Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in March.
The incident occurred on March 28, 2025, when a ball struck Imam’s right foot during an indoor net session.

Despite his medical examination revealing no fracture or bone dislocation on X-ray imaging, Imam complained of severe pain and bruising. The situation escalated when the team doctor cleaned the injured area with specialised chemical treatment, causing the alleged black marks to disappear entirely, the report continued.
Laboratory analysis revealed the substance was ink or marker rather than authentic blood.
Imam denied all allegations of applying artificial substances to his foot, but the committee rejected his explanation. The inquiry committee panel unanimously concluded that there was no medical basis for declaring Imam unfit for Pakistan’s first ODI against New Zealand.
They held him responsible for exaggerating symptoms while misleading the medical staff. The committee reportedly recommended banning Imam from representing Pakistan across all formats and at all levels.
The investigation also revealed that Imam allegedly sought to avoid opening against New Zealand’s fast bowlers on challenging pitches.
Imam is now injured during the England series; PCB sources say the board will take a closer look at his injury claim. The recent controversy has damaged his credibility.
