PSL surprise overseas unsold XI ft Keshav Maharaj

The historic Player auction for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 was held at the Expo Centre in Lahore on February 11.

The landmark event, held for the first time, featured hundreds of players, from whom impressive performers around the globe were selected.

However, several notable international names failed to secure buyers and are included in the PSL’s unsold XI.

Around 888 players registered for the auction, of whom only a limited number were selected by the eight teams amid intense bidding.

Openers: Jason Roy, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Evin Lewis, Brandon King

Former England batter Jason Roy, who has previously been part of the PSL, failed to secure any bid in the auction.

Roy was also not part of PSL X after a modest 2024 season in which he scored 253 runs in 10 matches at an average of 25.30, highlighting a significant decline in his fortunes.

Similarly, Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk, who made headlines with his flamboyant batting at the top of the order, failed to secure any bid.

The right-hander, who also went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) mini auction held in December 2025, has faced a dip in form, which has impacted his demand in international leagues.

Meanwhile, West Indian duo of Evin Lewis and Brandon King could not secure their place in the auction. Lewis, who was also not included in the West Indies T20 World Cup squad, has struggled with injuries, which have halted his career progress.

Brandon King, despite being part of the T20 World Cup squad, failed to attract any bidders.

Middle Order: Usman Khawaja, Dinesh Chandimal, Rassie van der Dussen, Dawid Malan.

Veteran Australian batter Usman Khawaja has been impressive in Test cricket. After hanging up his boots in the longer format, the left-hander could have been a valuable pick due to his ability to play spin effectively.

Notably, he boasts an excellent PSL record, with a century and a half-century to his name. The 39-year-old played seven matches in 2021 for Islamabad United and scored 246 runs at an average of 49.20 and at an impressive strike rate of 152.79.

Besides Khawaja, South Africa middle-order batter Rassie van der Dussen, Sri Lanka duo of Charith Asalanka and Dinesh Chandimal, and England batter David Malan also went unsold.

All-rounders Shakib Al Hasan, Jimmy Neesham, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Moises Henriques,

Among the all-rounders, prominent names included Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Shakib, who played for the Lahore Qalandars last season, failed to attract bidders. His compatriot, who also turned out for the 2025 champions, likewise went unsold.

New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham and Australia’s Moises Henriques were also overlooked by the franchises.

Spinners: Keshav Maharaj, Imran Tahir

The most notable omission was of South Africa’s left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj. The spinner’s super-over heroics against Afghanistan in the World Cup could not help him find a buyer.

Maharaj has been a quality bowler in recent years, with his stock rising in both longer and limited-overs formats.

Meanwhile, Imran Tahir, despite appearing in global T20 leagues, went unsold. Given his age, it was perhaps unsurprising that he failed to attract bidders.

Fast bowlers: Tymal Mills, Chris Jordan, Alzarri Joseph, and Reece Topley

The fast-bowling trio of England’s Tymal Mills, Chris Jordan, and West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph also went unsold in the PSL 11 player auction. The injury-prone left-arm seamer from England, Reece Topley, also went unsold.
