IND vs PAK T20 World Cup 2026 Standoff

On February 1, the Government of Pakistan announced that its national cricket team would boycott the match against India in the T20 World Cup, showing solidarity with Bangladesh.

Bangladesh were replaced by Scotland in the mega event. This was due to tensions between India and Bangladesh, with pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s exit from the Indian Premier League (IPL) fueling the conflict.

Bangladesh had requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to move their matches out of India and relocate them to Sri Lanka. However, their request was rejected, resulting in their withdrawal from the World Cup.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) backed Bangladesh’s move and announced a boycott of the India clash at the Government of Pakistan’s instructions.

Later, the issue was resolved after the ICC, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), and PCB joined heads for talks.

After successful talks, Bangladesh was awarded an upcoming ICC event without penalty for boycotting the mega event.

For the unversed, Pakistan are included in Group A, alongside India, the USA, the Netherlands, and Namibia.

The Green Shirts kicked off their World Cup campaign against the Netherlands with a win on February 7, in Colombo, followed by another resounding victory against the USA.

The 2009 champions are scheduled to play all of their matches in Sri Lanka; Colombo, with Super Eights matches also scheduled in Colombo and Kandy.
