Iga Swiatek outclasses Amanda Anisimova to win Wimbledon 2025

LONDON: It took 57 minutes for Iga Swiatek to claim her first Wimbledon title and sixth Grand Slam, outclassing Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 on Saturday. It was the first time in 114 years that in the women’s final at the tournament, one player failed to claim a single game.

Swiatek has now won all six major finals in which she has taken part.

The Polish eighth seed has been dominant throughout the tournament, losing just one set en route to the final.

The 13th seed, who upset world number one Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals, was expected to show her skill on the court, but she failed.

Anisimova started the match nervously on Centre Court. She was broken in the first game and fell 2-0 behind, soon losing the first set in just 25 minutes.

The American committed 14 unforced errors in the opening set and won just six points on her serve.

Iga Swiatek repeated the same performance in the second set as well, while Anisimova double-faulted again in the third game and then netted a backhand, helping the Polish clinch her first Wimbledon title.

Swiatek won 55 of 79 points in the match while Anisimova made 28 unforced errors.

Swiatek reflected on her victory, saying she did not even dream of this because she never expected this one. She also thanked her team for putting in the extra effort.

“Honestly, I didn’t even dream [of this], because for me, it was just, like, way too far, you know?” Swiatek said during the on-court ceremony.

“I feel like I’m already an experienced player after winning the Slams before, but I never really expected this one.

“I want to thank my team — they believed in me more than I did.”
